BALTA Researcher Recognized with National Award in the UK

Congratulations to Pat Conaty for receiving the CDFI Hero Award at the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards at last week’s Community Finance conference, organised by the Community Development Finance Association.

Conaty’s work at the New Economics Foundation (NEF) helped encourage the Department of Trade and Industry to launch the Phoenix Fund in 2000 – which invested over £42m into the CDFI sector between 2000 and 2006, and got the Treasury to back the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Growth Fund for personal lending by CDFIs and credit unions.

Conaty was recently interviewed by Pioneers Post about how he helped lead a social finance revolution in the UK. In the UK CDFIs lent almost £90m to businesses, social enterprises and individuals over the past year alone.

The full interview is available here.
