The Co-operative City is an initiative of the B.C. Co-operative Association and its executive director, John Restakis. It is also being promoted by some of BALTA’s partners in the UK. The Co-operative City initiative is promoting municipal level strategies to build co-operation as a vehicle for social and economic sustainability. The Great Transition

Creating a new kind of economy is crucial if we want to tackle climate change and avoid the mounting social problems associated with the rise of economic inequality. The Great Transition report, produced by the UK-based new economics foundation, provides a blueprint for building an economy based on stability, sustainability and equality. nef’s Great Transition Project is an initiative to explore and advance the transition to sustainability and a low carbon society.


Municipal Government Support for the Social Economy Sector

Based on a survey of larger, medium sized and smaller municipalities in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, this report documents various ways that municipal governments are working with and supporting the social economy sector to address sustainable development challenges.
